Start Here: Nervous System Literacy 101
A series overview

Over the past few years, I’ve come to see nervous system literacy as foundational to how we live, lead, collaborate, and create—especially in a world that often feels overwhelming.
This series explores what nervous system literacy is, why it matters in these times, and how understanding our own regulation can support deeper wellbeing, connection, and response-ability in both personal and collective spaces.
It’s written for anyone working at the edges of change—designers, facilitators, leaders, community builders, educators, health practitioners, carers—anyone curious about how inner work meets outer change.
Each post includes insights, practical reflections, and invitations to explore your own experience more deeply.
You don’t need to read these in order, but if you’d like to follow the arc, here’s where we’ve been so far:
🔹 Part 1: What is Nervous System Literacy and Why Now?
An introduction to what nervous system literacy means and why it’s essential in today’s fast, complex and often overwhelming world.
👉 Read Part 1
🔹 Part 2: From Protection to Connection: Adaptive Stress Responses
Explores how nervous system literacy begins with cultivating embodied self-awareness, learning to notice, name, and befriend our internal states as a foundation for meaningful change.
👉 Read Part 2
🔹 Part 3: Burnout is a Nervous System Signal
Explores how burnout is not a personal failing but a nervous system signal, and how recognising these cycles can open pathways to resilience, creativity, and cultural change.
👉 Read Part 3
🔹 Part 4: Co-Regulation. The Nervous System Between Us
Part 4 looks at co-regulation — the subtle, biological process where our nervous systems tune to one another. We’ll explore how mirror neurons, attachment patterns, and even ecosystems shape our capacity to stay connected under stress, and why co-regulation is culture in teams and organisations.
🔹 Part 5: Beyond the Human Nervous System
When we think about nervous systems, we often think of individuals. But the nervous system is not only human. Groups, organisations, even Earth herself ripple with cycles of contraction and expansion.
🔹 Part 6 | Cycle of Response-ability
This post explores how we can turn awareness into embodied practice through what I call the Cycle of Response-Ability.

🔹 Part 7 | Glimmers : Anchoring in Connection
When we talk about resilience, we often think about bouncing back after challenge. But what if resilience is also about learning to stay anchored?
